    Choosing A Squad Name

Athens. Rome. Egypt. These are just many of the few Ancient Empires that embodied the qualities of what working as a team is. They upheld great armies and with those armies they ruled over an expansive amount of land; there leaders helped to navigate, organise, strategize, like a map they lay out the landscape. Except they changed it to how they like it. E.g. Egypt used pyramids to show great power – the bigger the pyramid, the more power they had.  With their armies they had great names

Of course, today. We don’t have Empires anymore, we developed democracy and with that removed monarchs and suppression of dictators. However, we still develop great leaders -e.g. Nelson Mandela - these people fight for a different purpose: one that helps the abused and relives the government of their control.  Now. With this being said, I’ve probably gotten you wondering what the heck this has to do with KSI? Well this directly links with KSI because as a gaming community certain members in the past have develop brutal reputations with themselves while playing games online, this made the whole community directly at the forefront of the battle and we had to rebuild to create what KSI truly is, Knowledge, Strength, Integrity.

KSI is built upon the meanings of those words. Knowledge is the facts, information, and skills acquired through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. Without knowledge we couldn’t have made the six all-inclusive divisions and to do to that we needed teamwork. Strength holds everything together there is a saying, ‘Strength shows not only in the ability to persist, but the ability to start over. This for many squads is what each leader had to do. Rebuild. A city is not built in a day but the love for doing it will last a lifetime. Integrity, a word that has many interpretations. I see it as two meanings: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles, while also being the state of being whole and undivided. This is significant in building squads and divisions; choosing a name for that has to represent KSI, its meaning and value. Like a symbol of god, it has to be something that is recognisable.

From my personal experience, I joined KSI late February into SPARTA, I made a choice to make a difference in KSI, for me, my mentor – Zeus – and everyone else in KSI; it was as if I had sworn my life over a bible – a bond which cannot be broken. – Since then, - I have worked with Zeus as he led SPARTA, he truly grasped what it means to be a leader. A king. and with every king there is always an heir to the throne. He taught me the ways of being a leader, the ways of becoming a great mentor and motivator and still to this day I have always shown gratitude for the things he has done. He took me up as a member, mentee and a good friend; form there on a choose not to disappoint. I became Major of SPARTA, tasked with the duty of resurrecting the ancient warriors. Sitting at 40 members in March 9th I have brought it up to 100 members, all showing true qualities of team work and know what hard work is.  Now that a am General I am now going to be splitting my squad. This is a huge honour and had me feeling like I was being knighted by the Queen and joining the house of lords. However, in my elapse of excitement and feeling like a small child that has just won a trophy, I remained calm and still had work to do including the burdan of choosing a squad name.

All over KSI, Generals/co-founders have chosen different squad names for different reasons, some hold an ancient meaning, while others hold a hope for the future. I however wanted to choose I name that I will come use to teach my mentee’s. I looked for an hour or so debuting different names when I saw how tough it was a then looked for motivation elsewhere. Imagination plays a huge factor when creating a squad, having a vision to be able to create an image of your squad and its members in your head is a quality that not many people develop and will always separate leaders from followers. Using my imagination, a looked for something to help me decide where to look. That’s when I saw a Greek God in the sky, which brought me to think about how the Greeks worshipped Gods, followed Gods, used Gods as motivation. I search the wonderful invention called the internet, I studied it as if I had no other purpose in life.

Of course there are obvious names probably flying around your head like Zeus – the god of the sky, lightning, thunder, law, order, and justice. Or Ares - the god of war. Quite on the contrary in my 30 minutes of searching the internet I found out that there is 12 Olympian Gods: Zeus, Hera, Hephaestus, Athena, Hermes, Artemis, Apollo, Dionysus, Ares, Aphrodite, Demeter, and Poseidon. However, these Gods gave birth to separate gods that are just as important. Themis – God of Law, order and justice – was one of those options and as soon as a saw it I found it to be a perfect fit. Reasons? Certain reasons are that he is related to Zeus and Ares which interlinks the idea of power with reasoning. They act as the leaders are Themis follows them according like a child to a parent.

Moving on from the historical context of the squad, my new squad will be called Themis. But to make this decision I had to use ideas. Imagination. Integrity to get there. You have to choose the name based off what your vision is for the squad and not to follow your leaders above you, ‘Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead. Walk besides me and we can be equal.’ Certain things aren’t as they seem and if u follow them you will never find out what they actually are.  ‘Leaders are made; they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that’s is worthwhile.’ Themis will capture that element as a squad and will grow leaders forward as a Themis member.
