    How KSI and its Leaders have changed over time

    Through the years KSI Global has changed in many ways, including size and shape. KSI was created in April of 2003 by Syrus, Deadmeat, and Natas (Se7en). From April of 2003 till 2007 KSI went through a lot of challenges adapting to the gaming world. These changes helped build KSI and its leaders into the greatest gaming community on any platform. The reaches of KSI have not only helped gamers better themselves in game, but also better themselves as leaders. I interviewed a few members of KSI who have been here for a while and have seen the changes first hand. Here is what I got out of it:

    Airborn: How was KSI different in terms of clan operations and how divisions were ran from when you first joined till now?


    Koda:KSI has changed drastically over the years. When I joined KSI originally, it had a back-end infrastructure to support it. We utilized the forums for off-the-xbox chatting and discussion, and we utilized in-game clan battle features. The organization that was on Halo 2 was key. The support of clan battles within Halo 2, and the competitiveness between clans was really what allowed KSI to grow to the massive numbers it had. In-Game support allowed squads & divisions to be clearly defined across the game. Microsoft didn't jump on the "clan" feature, and ultimately, it was a letdown to communities like us, H20, PMS, MoB, XGN, XGC and the like. We were forced to adapt with Friends of Friends lists and other "outside the box" features. But that's just the technical side of it. Even more of a change is the behavioral side of the clan operations. Previously, the community ran with a sense of "respect" and "honor". Our members were proud to be a part of the community, and proud to be involved in something larger than themselves. They enjoyed going out every evening and bringing new people into their world, Their corner of the gaming globe. We respected those above us, we respected our peers, and we respected those below us. But where I look now, some of that sense of respect has been lost.”


    Airborn: How has the leadership and the leadership ranks changed over time?


    Koda: KSI's leadership has changed over the years. We've moved from the old-school leadership that has been here from the beginning to a newer modern leadership with newer faces. In-between there were some hiccups and some speed bumps, but we seem to be doing pretty well. Back in the older days, there were a lot more ranks in the upper leadership. For example, we had Director, Senior Director, Co-Creator, Creator, Board Member. All of these folks were "Chiefs" of KSI. I'm glad we've somewhat gotten away from that because now we seem to have "Senior Director" as our top rank overseen by two folks, Game and BT. This evens out the ratio of "Chiefs vs Indians" and allows for sound decisions to be made and disseminated.” 


    Airborn: What old school leaders are still around and active?


    Koda: “Well, from back in the day, there aren't too many of the old dogs still in leadership. There are a handful of older leaders here but a lot of them are either working their way back up, or enjoying the rank they're at.”


    Airborn: Last question, how can you best describe the status of KSI now from what it was in the late 2000s?


    Koda: “The status of KSI now versus back in the late 2000's is growing. Recovering. We took a pretty decent hit back in 2008 and again in 2011 when both United and Fuzzymeep's KSI communities split from us. What appeared to have been the end of this group turned out to just be a learning experience. We persevered, and we still come back strong. We may not be at the numbers when we were all one, but we are still one family. Even the other folks (Fuzzy's and United), we're still one family. We may not live in the same house anymore, and we may hate each other's guts from time to time, but we're still one family with the same name. K.S.I. Not many people think that way, but I hope in time we come to terms with all of us and agree to move back together for a common cause.”

     

     

    In an Interview with Nex Addo

    Airborn: When you first joined KSI, how was Clan Operations run?


    Nex: “When I first joined ClanOPS it was pretty much ran the same way. Not much of a difference just more divisions, more directors, more of a lot of things going on.”


    Airborn: How were the leadership positions organized?


    Nex: “My memory is fuzzy and since I left ClanOps after a time it changed a few times. So as best as possible it was a joint union with senior leader ship and possible board of directors.”


    Airborn: Looking back do you wish that KSI back in the day had an actual Web Operations department like we do now?


    Nex: “Today we have a organized system of checks and balances. With myself making decisions only in the web departments with huge changes going with me and it then forums changes like how admins work and such to the admins and ClanOps I work with BT and the seniors. Of course though jazz is a huge part. So in the long run I love how it is ran now even if I was not here and retired end of the end of the year so. No do I wish it were different back then? Unsure since so many changes were being made and I was left to my own device in the past. I wasn’t bothered much and as long as I was successful then it was fine. Since WebOps has gotten together and talked and kept in communication I think it has done much better.”


    Airborn: Last question, How do you think the current Web Operations department would have helped or hurt KSI back then?


    Nex: “I think Web Operations is a huge thing that helps KSI Global. Gives us the opportunity to reach new and amazing horizons. We have potential to work with partners, goals, and events. I think WebOps has always been good even if there have been issues out of it.”

    As you have heard from these longtime KSI members, KSI is always going through changes and thats what makes us the greatest Gaming Community ever on any console.
